Introduce lessons in expectations & responsibilities when children leave school.

Petition Details

I would like parliament to discuss the importance of giving young children the opportunity to learn about real life decisions and circumstances such as finances, Tax, Insurance, managing money, paying bills, buying a house/ car, etc. Aiding them when it comes to venturing out into the real world.

Additional Information

I have told most of my friends of this campaign and they have all agreed that they would find it unbelievably beneficial for them as it will lift a weight off their shoulders and become less daunting for them to know what it means to become an Adult. As a young adult In college, I cannot speak for myself or anyone else my age in saying that we have had any lessons that have taught us on how to pay for bills or insurance, how to manage money or even what it means to pay tax.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The national curriculum already states that secondary school students should be taught about the functions and uses of money, the importance and practice of budgeting, income and expenditure, credit and debt, insurance, savings and pensions, financial products and services, and how public money is raised and spent.

You can read the full national curriculum for key stages 3 and 4 here: assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/840002/Secondary_national_curriculum_corrected_PDF.pdf
