Petition Action

Change the time schools start to 10:00 am

Petition Details

school should start at 10 am so students' school performance can increase

Additional Information

brains are most active at 10am and students are often extremely tired at school due to the early start. This would give pupils more time to sleep and more time to prepare for school in the mornings.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The length of the school day are decisions for schools and their governing bodies to make.

If you would like the Department for Education to issue guidelines, or impose requirements on schools, about the length of the school day you could start a petition asking for that.

We have published the following petitions, which you might like to sign:

Require secondary schools to start teaching at 10am and end it at 2pm: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/553181

Ban secondary schools from starting teaching before 9am: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/561659
