Rebuild southern Britain
After the "Great Storm" of October 2013, that has devastated much of southern Britain, central Government should impose a one off tax upon the people of the UK to fund the process of rebuilding.
For as little as £2 a month we could provide a Londoner with a theatre ticket or a reasonable bouquet of flowers on their birthday, whereas £5 per month could provide them with a pair of shoes for the Christmas party, dinner for one on a special occasion or even a taxi home from the airport.
If we pull together we can do this, just like we did when we built Wembley, the Olympic Park or any number of other national projects that are rather unequally located in the richest part of the country.
