Temporarily suspend fines for children removed from school during the pandemic
Parents and guardians must have the right to decide to keep their children out of school if they feel it is unsafe. It is unfair and unjust to fine those that wish to keep their children, and those their children come into close contact with, safe.
It is the duty, and the right, of all parents and guardians to keep their children safe. SAGE, teaching unions, and teaching staff, are all advising that sending children to school is not safe in the current climate. We do not know enough about how the new variant affects children to be sure that schools are safe environments. Many parents and guardians want to ensure the safety of their children by homeschooling them. It is unfair that these parents may be fined for unauthorised absences.
