Reclaim UK Media Sovereignty from Offshore Domination by Requiring UK Ownership

Petition Details

We call on parliament to enact a Restoration of UK Media Sovereignty Act, requiring all UK media companies to be majority owned by UK companies or UK legal residents.
Any individual with a controlling share of any such company must be either a UK citizen or a UK legal resident.

Additional Information

To have a truly sovereign democratic nation, all four estates (parliament, executive, judiciary and media) in the UK must be free from off-shore control.
Due to the impact media has on UK politics, it is crucial for our democracy to be healthy, that those who own our media, have a stake in it, by being fully UK owned companies or resident individuals.
It is time take back control of our destiny and end the majority of our press being owned by foreign-based corporations and non-dom individuals.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, we're not sure whether you'd like international media which is available in the UK to be banned.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
