Review current training requirements for administration of Covid vaccines
To review the mandatory training associated with vaccine administration to allow existing and retired nurses, doctors, pharmacists and dentists to help with the Covid 19 vaccine administration programme. On average there are approximately 20 courses and days of training required by NHS Trusts.
By requiring volunteers and staff to undertake days of online training in subjects not directly related to the safe administration of the vaccine the government and regulatory bodies should consider a review of the training which must ensure that staff and volunteers are safely administering vaccines but without the burden of additional courses. By reviewing the relevance of the additional courses required such as conflict management the vaccination programme could be accelerated greatly.

The training recommendations for Covid-19 vaccinators are set by Public Health England, and the application process for joining the NHS Covid-19 vaccination team is managed by the NHS. Both Public Health England and the NHS are operationally independent of the Government, and decisions about this guidance and recruitment are matters for them, not the Government or House of Commons.
