Sentencing of sexual offences involving children and woman
The Attorney General has confirmed that in law they have no power to review or take a case back to the court of appeal where sexual offences involving pictures of sexual exploitation of children, some as young as 3yrs old, plus violence on woman are involved.
The custodial sentence of 2 years handed down to the former Leader of the Council of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, Derek Osborne, is far too lenient since it means he will only serve about 10 months.
This sentence fails to reflect the betrayal of trust to the community by a Publicly elected Leader of a Local Authority in a London Borough’s highest position of responsibility.
It never can be right those facilitating the continuance of such illegal offences receive such light sentences.
We ask the PM to ensure that Parliament changes the law so that the Attorney General has the power to return these cases to the court of appeal regarding sentencing.
