Petition Action

Save Portsmouth shipyard

Additional Information

We hereby call upon the Government to reverse its decision to end shipbuilding in the Portsmouth shipyard.

The action, announced by the MoD on 6th November 2013, will result in the loss of 940 skilled jobs and the abrupt end of over 800 years of shipbuilding in Portsmouth, leaving the city's proud heritage teetering on the brink of extinction.

The Government's proposed £100m 'investment' is nothing short of an insult to the community of Portsmouth, having stripped it of its main source of livelihood and identity over the years; an insult made all the more bitter by the seemingly political ends behind the announcement.
