Lower university grade boundaries due to online teaching and Covid-19

Petition Details

Parliament should lower the grade boundaries set for University students for this academic year as has been done for GCSE/A-Levels.

It is absurd to expect students to be achieving the same level of grades as previous years without in-person teaching, access to resources and remote communication.

Additional Information

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic university teaching, communication and resources have been inadequate.

Despite the best efforts of university staff, this years teaching has been insufficient and communication scarce.

Students have been unable to access and take advantage of resources or use libraries.

No face to face communication incurs increased waiting times for questions and matters of clarification.

Some students struggle to gain to access to internet connection or access is limited.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about university courses and marking are a matter for individual universities, not the UK Government or Parliament. The Office for Students has published guidance for providers about quality and standards during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which sets out its expectations regarding teaching and assessments: www.officeforstudents.org.uk/publications/guidance-for-providers-about-quality-and-standards-during-coronavirus-pandemic/

If you have concerns about your university's arrangements for teaching and assessment you should raise these with your university or the Office for Students, which regulates the higher education sector.
