Petition Action

Force iGCSE exam boards to use teacher assessed grades in 2021

Petition Details

Force iGCSE exam boards to use teacher assessed grades as opposed to forcing students to sit exams, to provide equality to both state and private school students sitting exams, and to provide much needed certainty to students currently in their second school lockdown

Additional Information

Given that most students have by this point missed many months of proper in person teaching, in their GCSE years, and because GCSE exams have already been cancelled, it is only right that iGCSE exams are also cancelled, to provide students with certainty, remove complications for students who take both types of exams, and ensure state school students are not negatively disadvantaged by not being able to sit exams while their privately educated counterparts can.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about courses and assessments that are delivered by independent educational institutions, as opposed to state schools, are a matter for individual exam boards and educational institutions, not the Government or House of Commons.

We could accept a petition calling for the Government to prohibit any exams from taking place during the Covid-19 outbreak, if that is something you want to happen.

We understand that the current situation is stressful for many people, including students. Student Minds, a mental health charity for students, is collating guidance and developing resources to support students experiencing stress as a result of the current situation, which you may find useful: www.studentminds.org.uk/coronavirus.html
