Cancel IGCSE examinations for current year 11 students

Petition Details

The IGCSE examinations are set to carry on as normal this school year. These need to be cancelled due to our lack of education this year as well as many students take both IGCSE and GCSE so would make no sense for them to only take half their examinations.

Additional Information

The UK government should treat the IGCSE exams as they have the GCSE exams and cancel them for the current year 11. This will bring peace to those who have not had much time spent inside schools and out students at a greater disadvantage than those from other countries, thus lower grades.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about courses and assessments that are delivered by independent educational institutions, as opposed to state schools, are a matter for individual exam boards and educational institutions, not the Government or House of Commons.

We could accept a petition calling for the Government to prohibit any exams from taking place during the Covid-19 outbreak, if that is something you want to happen.

We understand that the current situation is stressful for many people, including students. Student Minds, a mental health charity for students, is collating guidance and developing resources to support students experiencing stress as a result of the current situation, which you may find useful: www.studentminds.org.uk/coronavirus.html
