Ensure venue owners/landlords are not profiteering from the Covid-19 crisis

Petition Details

The hospitality sector needs support to survive. We want the Government to look at venues under threat because their owners refuse to negotiate/pass on any rent relief to those who lease their buildings. No landlord should benefit from public finances during the crisis whilst their tenants suffer.

Additional Information

On talkRADIO 07/01/2021, G-A-Y nightclub owner Jermey Joseph said the he has paid £1 million in rent since March with zero income to his landlords who have refused to offer him any rent relief during the current crisis.

Across the UK thousands of venues are in the same position - we would like the Government to ensure that landlords/property owners are not profiteering from public funds at the expense of the hospitality sector.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The UK Government and Parliament are not responsible for private rental contracts between landlords and tenants. You could start a new petition calling for the Government to offer support to landlords if they reduce rent for tenants, if that's something that you'd like to happen.
