Reduce the demands on student midwives during COVID-19
Reduce the number of hours and clinical involvements required by registered nurses to pass the 18-month midwifery conversion degree by 25%, to reflect the reduction in learning opportunities caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as a result of isolation periods, online learning and increased stress.
Registered nurses on the 18-month midwifery conversion course must complete, according to EU law: 3000 hours of study, including,1800 hours of placement (Article 40 of Directive 2005/36/EU). It will be extremely difficult and stressful for students to achieve these requirements and pass their written exams and assignments in 2021. The Government want to protect the NHS, this is one way they can, help students pass their courses when their opportunity to do so has been affected by the pandemic.
