Petition Details

Invrease funding for NHS mental health services, making counselling more accessible to the general public, updating educating and training of health workers. Fund suicidal helplines and university wellbeing services in order to cope with the influx of students requiring support during the pandemic.

Additional Information

There has been a vast increase in suicides and attempted suicides since the beginning of the pandemic and the government needs to provide more funding for support of individuals suffering from mental health issues, particularly with isolation and lockdown. At least one university student has died every week since the beginning of the September 2020 term, with many being held on waiting lists for university wellbeing counselling and not receiving the help they needed due to lack of funding and support for the wellbeing services. Helplines, such as samaritans, are struggling to man phones due to self isolation and covid positive cases of volunteers, the government needs to provide more funding for these vital helplines to provide 24/7 support.
