Stop all but essential incoming travel to the UK during the pandemic.
Use the methods employed by the New Zealand government to prevent all but essential travel into the UK. Those people who have a legitimate reason to travel to the UK must show evidence of a negative Covid test and/or be held in quarantine centres until shown to be free of the virus.
There is a new variant from South Africa which is highly transmissible and may show some resistance to the existing vaccines. This new variant is thought to have been brought into the country by two people returning from South Africa before Christmas.
