Petition Action

Reinstate publication of ongoing data gathered on covid19 deaths by profession

Petition Details

These data on death by occupation were published last year.
https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/causesofdeath/bulletins/coronaviruscovid19relateddeathsbyoccupationenglandandwales/deathsregistereduptoandincluding20april2020
We would like this to be reinstated

Additional Information

Detailed data on the risk to individuals and groups working in specific professions is needed in order for adequate risk assessment and risk remediation to be performed by employers.
We are asking for as much detail as possible, and at least the level of detail which was available when the above report was released in April 2020.
We are asking for all relevant data to be published and updated at least every month.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The statistics which you have referred to are produced by the Office for National Statistics, which is is the UK’s largest independent producer of official statistics and the recognised national statistical institute of the UK.

Because the ONS is independent, deciding what statistics to produce is a matter for it, not the Government or House of Commons.

We could accept a petition calling on the Government to publish statistics on Covid-19 deaths by profession, along the lines of those published by the ONS, but couldn't accept any petitions calling for the ONS to publish particular statistics.
