Petition Action

Restrict and in some cases prohibit the sale of animals on the internet.

Petition Details

Prohibit the sale of animals on social networks. Tight requirements on sites that sell animals-further protection will ensure they are not stolen, or from puppy farms & have had health checks. Achieve this via collaboration with vets & animal charities. A simple paywall (minimal fees) is not enough.

Additional Information

Stolen pet cases are rising. These sites allow the easy and quick sale of animals. Dogs may be (and have been) from puppy farms or stolen, and without prohibitions and restrictions, they are being bought to be used as bait and for other horrible purposes.

Legally prohibiting & restricting animals being sold online reduces the abuse of these sites to sell ill or stolen animals, or to gain easy access to animals to use as bait or for sport. Without these changes to law, this abuse will continue.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. You might like to sign this petition instead:

Or you could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
