Increase statutory maternity pay to the same amount as furlough pay during covid
Pay those who are claiming maternity pay the same amount as those who have been furloughed.
Statutory maternity pay equates to approximately £600 per month. Those who have been furloughed are entitled to claim up to £2,500 per month (some earning more if employers are topping up). This is unfair.
Little support is available from friends, family, healthcare workers and the community as a result of lockdown rules. This financial burden places additional pressure on families and for some a poor mental health.
Fair pay will reduce stress and allow quality family time in the future.
