Prevent landlords refusing permission of pets in rented accommodation
Pass a law to prevent landlords discriminating against pet owners. Tenancy agreements to allow domesticated pets but include if deemed necessary a separate deposit contribution to cover potential damages caused.
A fifth of the animals brought to UK rehoming centres are put up for adoption due to clauses within tenancy agreements. Allowing pets could save an animal from its uncertain fate and in tern reduce pressures of over crowding with rescue centres.
Pets are part of the family and should not determine the opportunity or outcome of securing a home.
I’ve recently taken a cat into our rescue for a young lady who was forced to live in her car as she couldn’t find a vacant property that allowed pets.
