Petition Action

Make GPS tracking systems mandatory with microchips for dogs

Petition Details

Far too many dogs are being stolen every day in the UK.
Mandatory GPS with microchips will help reduce the number, as the dog will be trackable.

Additional Information

Crime statistics are at an all time high, and as dog theft is at the highest rate it's ever been, a GPS tracker with the mandatory microchip would result in the dog being found quicker and crime stats going down.
GPS tracking collars are ineffective with stolen dogs as the collar could be removed.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action. We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

It's not currently technologically possible for pet microchips to be GPS-enabled, but you could start a petition calling for the Government to make it a legal requirement for pets to wear GPS devices, if that's what you'd like to see happen.
