Protect the NHS from trade agreements in legislation.
Legislate protections for the NHS from all future trade deals to remain free at the point of delivery.
In July 2020 Parliament voted against amendments protecting the NHS from future trade deals and protection from privatisation. It was insisted the amendments were not needed as "no element of the NHS will be up for grabs in a future trade deal, and standards will not be lowered".
Following the heroic and ongoing efforts of our NHS during the recent pandemic, protections should be written into law to ensure the changing opinions of parliament does not later threaten the services core principle.
