No hotel quarantine for UK citizens, permanent residents and their families
Instead implement significantly higher fines for people who break their quarantine requirements or a Polish style home tracking system
Millions of law abiding people should not have their freedom restricted because of a minority of people who breach existing quarantine requirements.
In addition, for people whom part of their family lives abroad hotel quarantines would be heart breaking and essentially preventing them from seeing loved ones.
Finally, hotel quarantines would impose an unfair financial burdens on UK residents who have their own accommodation and could quarantine at home.

The Government has put in place a managed quarantine system to protect the public from the spread of Covid-19.
Throughout the pandemic, the government has put in place proportionate measures, to protect the country from Covid-19 infection including new and potentially harmful variants. It is vital that we continue to be vigilant and managed quarantine, for those who have been in or travelled through red list countries, is an important part of this.
Travel abroad for holidays or leisure is not permitted at this time of the pandemic. It is the government’s first duty to protect citizens and the health of the nation. Hotel quarantine enables us to better track any news cases which might be brought into the country and give us even more opportunities to detect new variants.
There are specific exemptions for some people who are unable to quarantine in hotels. The full list of exemptions, including those for medical and compassionate reasons, can be found on GOV.UK at: (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/exemptions-from-managed-quarantine-for-medical-and-compassionate-reasons)
The government keeps all measures under constant review, and they will remain in place as long as necessary to protect public health and reduce transmission of the virus and reduce the risk of new variants.
