Petition Action

Ban goal celebrations to give a better example of social distancing on TV

Petition Details

Prevent footballers giving millions of TV viewers a deplorable example of how not to act during a deadly, global pandemic .

Additional Information

All too often the news programmes show a bias of giving more air time to people displaying and promoting poor examples of social distancing behaviour than conveying a positive example to impressionable viewers. One really important example of this is the daily coverage of footballers kissing and cuddling each other after each and every goal. What sort of example is this to people whom we need to act more responsibly?

This is one thing the authorities could rectify very easily; just tell the FA that they either behave responsibly or be shut down.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise.

Ensuring elite football clubs and players observe Covid-19 protocols is a matter for the FA, not the UK Government or Parliament.
