Petition Action

Call for a new stand-alone comprehensive legislation for disability equality

Petition Details

Stop the dilution of disability equality rights under the Equality Act. Have new legislation covering all angles of disabilities visible/invisible, challenges impacting the day-to-day lives/employment of people with disabilities, intersectionality, COVID19 practical challenges, Brexit and UNSDG 2030

Additional Information

Palpable evidence shows pace of progression of anti-discrimination & equality legislation for people with disabilities remains precarious, lacks thorough impactful understanding of disabilities and at best light in making a real tangible difference in people with disabilities day to day lives/employment. It's no longer fit for purpose. We can't ignore the loss of life, abuse of people of disabilities that are on the rise and the rapid deterioration of their quality of life Action is required now

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. We understand you'd like to see new laws for disability equality, but we're not sure specifically what you'd like these to do beyond the protections in the Equality Act.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
