Create a separate PIP assessment for mental health conditions.
The current Personal Independence Payment assessment does not include questions about mental health. People are being discriminated against and losing money that they are entitled to because the questions are physical-ability-specific and do not allow for the debilitating nature of mental illness.
Vulnerable people are being discriminated against due to the apparent complete lack of understanding around how mental illness affects ability to function. Mental health symptoms are being completely overlooked resulting in deserving claimants being denied.
Attempted suicides by disability claimants more than doubled after the introduction of fitness-to-work assessments. If the government cares about suicide prevention, they must reevaluate unethical methods of evaluating mental health issues.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. PIP is based an ability to undertake specific tasks, rather than on a specific disability. The process does already include a requirement to consider mental capacity.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do, such as creating a new benefit or type of independence payment, if that's what you'd like to see happen.
