Don't send people back to college and universities until they're vaccinated
Ensure that everyone going back to college or university is vaccinated prior to sending colleges and universities back.
Anyone over the age of 16 is able to receive the vaccine and tend to actually fall ill with the virus rather than just being asymptomatic. They're unlikely to die, however, long covid is a huge problem in young people - a lot of people becoming disabled or losing their senses for months on end. Sending people back to college and university before they're vaccinated is cruel and unfair - especially due to the fact that colleges and universities are environments for superspreading.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency is responsible for approving the safety of vaccines. At the moment, the covid-19 vaccines have only been approved for over 18s.
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation have said that "there is very limited data on vaccination in adolescents, with no data on vaccination in younger children, at this time." You can find out more here: www.gov.uk/government/publications/priority-groups-for-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccination-advice-from-the-jcvi-30-december-2020/joint-committee-on-vaccination-and-immunisation-advice-on-priority-groups-for-covid-19-vaccination-30-december-2020
We could accept a petition calling on the Government not to allow university students to return to campuses until they have been vaccinated.
You could also start a new petition asking for the government to fund research into the safety of covid-19 vaccines for children, if that's something that you'd like to happen.
