Petition Action

Unrestricted access for essential food delivery cyclists in pedestrianised towns

Petition Details

Allow, in pedestrianised areas of towns, unrestricted access for essential delivery cyclists to ride through between jobs in order to fulfil essential hot food and shopping deliveries to the public, shielding, elderly and vulnerable efficiently and without the worry of receiving fines for cycling.

Additional Information

During the pandemic city centres have been a lifeline to outlying suburbs, areas that are cut off due to local businesses shutting and residents staying home for safety. Due to this the few city centre businesses that have stayed open need to be reliable enough for these vulnerable and needy to use with peace of mind.
Riders are not able to do this in pedestrianised areas as they are forced to walk in and out, making orders late, cold. This is of detriment to the customer, business and rider

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about local traffic restrictions are a matter for individual local authorities, not the Government or House of Commons.

If you are concerned about restrictions in your area you could raise this issue with a local councillor, who represents you. You can use this page to find out who your local councillors are, and how to contact them: www.gov.uk/find-your-local-councillors
