Petition Action

Bring back emergency standards for student midwives.

Petition Details

We student midwives, paramedics and nurses are asking for the previous measures of support introduced during the first lockdown, to be reintroduced.

Additional Information

Millions of parents across the UK have all had their own unique experience with midwives during the birth of their children and owe their lives and their babies lives to them.
There is a national shortage of 30,000 midwives across the UK and this act of inequality of emergency standards means we are at further risk of losing our next generation of midwives. We could be faced with students not returning to placement over the forthcoming weeks as they feel insulted, undervalued, and invisible.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise.

The content of the NMC's emergency standards, and which groups of nursing and midwifery students are covered by them, is a matter for the NMC, not the UK Government or Parliament.
