Stop off-road vehicles ruining our countryside.More policing & stiffer penalties
Section 34 Road Traffic Act 1988 needs enforcing more strictly with arrests, bigger fines, vehicle confiscation & prosecutions to deter the huge increase in recreational off-road vehicle usage on grazing/common land which is damaging the livestock, our wildlife, environment and rural communities
Local wildlife, farmers, communities have relied on moorlands for generations and these vital peatlands are under threat with livestock unable to graze safely now. These illegal, vehicle users are shredding moorland to pieces. This problem has grown over the years and the increase is mainly adults using our moorland to exercise off-road bikes/4x4s and has now reached an overwhelming level. The huge increase in this illegal activity is damaging breeding grounds and the environment to a huge level

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Driving a 'mechanically propelled' vehicle on moorland is already an offence under the Road Traffic Act 1988, so it's not clear how you would like the law to be changed nor what you mean by 'stiffer penalties'.
Further, enforcement of the law is a matter for the Police, not the UK Government or Parliament.
You could start a petition calling for increased minimum sentences for offences under Section 34 of the Road Traffic Act, if that's something you'd like to happen.
