Petition Action

Remove the Queens consent requirement for legislative bills

Petition Details

Remove the Queens Consent requirements for debating bills that may effect Royal prerogatives.

Including the Prince's Consent rules for matters affecting the Duchy of Lancaster and the Duchy of Cornwall.

Additional Information

Royal spokespersons have confirmed, on the 8th February 2021, that the Royal Consent rules are "purely formal". We should make this official.

Their removal would serve to streamline government processes saving time by cutting red tape.

Keeping the consent rules as they are is only leaving a backdoor open which a norm-breaking royal could potentially abuse.

Why leave these rules in place which carry potential risk of abuse but serve no benefit to UK citizens and our elected representatives.
