Petition Action

Subsidise self-funded hotel quarantine for UK citizens

Petition Details

Government should put more resources into monitoring and applying its policy of self-isolation and home quarantine for all international travellers. In addition, should Government continue the policy of self-funded hotel quarantine, it should subsidise the cost of hotel quarantine for UK citizens.

Additional Information

Travellers from a red-list of 33 countries face a £1750.00 cost for 10-days enforced quarantine, akin to a form of punishment, imprisonment and solitary confinement. The threat of ten-year jail sentences for those who do not disclose their port of origin is draconian and completely disproportionate for a regulatory offence. UK citizens, especially foreign expatriates, may still need to travel to and return from foreign countries for personal emergencies, and should not be punished for doing so.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure if you want the Government to end the requirement to quarantine in a hotel for certain travellers, or subiside the cost of this (and if so how you want the cost to be subsidised).

We have published the following petitions, which you might like to sign:

Do not enforce mandatory hotel quarantines for international arrivals: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/571682

No hotel quarantine for UK citizens, permanent residents and their families: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/571447

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
