Petition Action

Cancel Selective Licensing nationwide.Blanket licensing is not acceptable .

Petition Details

Do a public consultation among landlords and asssociations of letting agents regarding the sustainability of such schemes which may result in landlords leaving the market and decreased numbers of available properties, increased homelessness and increased rents

Additional Information

Councils are using the Selective Licensing Schemes to impose unreasonable fines for things which are merely administrative errors or make them responsible for the tenants antisocial behaviour which the landlord cannot control. Tenants need to be accountable as well for their behaviour, it cant be the landlords responsability alone as evicting a tenant due to antisocial behaviour can take a long time in court and may require evidence which the neighbours may fear to supply due to being afraid of tenants retaliation during the eviction trial.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about selective licensing schemes, but we're not sure if you want the Government to remove provisions enabling local authorities to use these schemes, or to run a consultation about the impact of these schemes.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
