Prisoners to carry out labour and manufacturing.
With the UKs manufacturing sector primarily based overseas it offers little towards economic reform.
With the jail population at a record high the cost for society is substantial. If prisoners took on labour that would otherwise go overseas it could boost the economy and offer inmates skills to increase employability and reduce number of re-offenders. It would also reduce the monopoly of sweatshops as cheaper labour would be available closer to home.
