Change law for domestic pets and increase sentencing power for Judges.
The increase in domestic pet theft warrants a Government response and a law change to afford justice for the trauma caused. A better deterrent is needed urgently. Domestic pets should not be treated as property in law.
Law change is the gift of Parliament and the C19 pandemic has demonstrated the importance for our health and well-being that domestic animals afford.
The theft and the unknown outcome of a beloved animal is commensurate to the loss of a beloved family member, and the limitations of existing laws does not represent a reasonable deterrent or justice fir the families concerned.
