Remove recommendation that face coverings be used in classrooms
Remove the wording referring to secondary schools from section 92 of the "Covid-19 Response - Spring 21" document; in which the recommended use of face coverings in Higher Education, Further Education and secondary schools is extended to all indoor environments - including classrooms.
Attendance at secondary school is compulsory in this country. If the recommendation is adopted, pupils could have no choice about wearing a face covering for many hours, possibly the entire school day, with no opportunity for a break.
Skin irritation from face coverings and therefore face touching can increase with time. Incorrect wearing and the wearing of the same mask for several days renders the measure ineffective.
We believe this recommendation is therefore inhumane, discriminatory and ineffective.
