Reduce all residential leasehold rents to a peppercorn/£1.
Require all existing and new residential long-term leases to charge no more than a peppercorn/£1 rent each year.
It is archaic that leaseholders are required to pay substantial rents to "landlords" for properties they effectively own. As shown by the recent cladding scandal, landlords/freeholders have failed to act in the best interests of their tenants or add any value to the housing system. It is time for this to end.
