Petition Action

Extend local authorities' duty to support young people with EHCPs to age 27

Petition Details

Due to Covid, adults aged 23-25 with EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans) stand to lose vital years of education. Many participate, with support, in internships or apprenticeships and these and other courses have been stopped.

Additional Information

As a result, they have lost opportunities for education, practical skills and possibly workplace experience. These are crucial years needed to teach them essential life and job market skills. It is vital they are not forgotten and are given their chance to work towards a successful adulthood. Research shows adults with disabilities are already more likely to be unemployed compared to non-disabled adults. It’s vital they complete their education so this disadvantage doesn’t widen further.
