Petition Action

Change the current educational system to one that is fairer for all

Petition Details

Reduce the amount of formal assessments and use teacher based scores instead
Weigh vocational subjects the same as GCSEs and A-Levels
Reward effort with grading to show improvement
More opportunity to play in all years
Teach real life e.g. opening a bank account
Encourage difference

Additional Information

I have worked as a teacher, a careers adviser, a family support worker, a mental health adviser and now I'm a parent. I have supported lots of young people who have been failed by the current system and have seen the effect of this - low self esteem, poor mental health and no ambition. The pandemic showed new ways of learning, which has highlighted the inflexibility of the system. Too many assessments get in the way of actual teaching and supporting children to be the best version of themselves

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about existing arrangements for education, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. It's not clear what you mean by asking for vocational subjects to be treated the same as GCSEs and A-levels, or encouraging difference.

We have published the following petitions, which you might like to sign:

Scrap national exams for Key Stage 4 permanently: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/571777

Change the school exam grading system to year round progressive assessment: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/574811

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
