Petition Action

Urge Tanzanian government to begin COVID-19 testing and participate in COVAX.

Petition Details

The Tanzanian governments inaction undermines the fight against COVID, potentially acting, as a source of new variants, which could spread across Africa and beyond. This petition calls upon the Government to take the lead in raising this matter with International Partners and donors to Tanzania.

Additional Information

Tanzania has not published COVID-19 stats since May 2020 when it logged 509 positive cases. The Tanzanian authorities have refused to participate in COVAX advocating herbal remedies and prayer. There has been a marked increase in deaths classified as respiratory illness overwhelming hospitals. The situation poses a threat to the world as Tanzania is providing the virus with a sanctuary to spread and mutate.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions relating to testing for, and vaccinations against, Covid-19 in other countries are a matter for their individual governments, not the UK Government or Parliament.
