Students with compulsory placement year to progress into the final year

Petition Details

Allow universities to give students the opportunity to dismiss the compulsory year of work placement and let them move onto their final year of studies

Additional Information

Due to coronavirus students have suffered mentally with work obligations and financial struggles, students are now facing immense pressure of applying for a work placement as universities claimed that it is compulsory for sandwich degrees. And if not found then students are forced to take a gap year. Opportunities have become limited, it has become more competitive to find a placement as the majority have received rejections. The majority would like to progress onto their final year and graduate

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about university courses are a matter for individual universities, not the Government or House of Commons. Where courses lead to a professional qualification these will need to meet the standards required by the relevant professional body.
