Withdraw discriminatory clauses from Police, Crime, Sentencing & Courts Bill
Withdraw the discriminatory clauses from the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts bill and consult on its proposals, so that the views of those who will be most directly affected can be sought, to avoid further entrenching racial disparities for black, Asian and minority ethnic groups.
No formal consultation was carried out before the government published its sentencing white paper. The government’s equality assessment concedes some proposals would increase racial disparity. It justifies this as a ‘proportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim of protecting the public’ but acknowledges there is no evidence that these measures will impact on public safety. We do not accept that the legal duty to eliminate discrimination under the Public Sector Equality Duty has been met.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We understand you're concerned about provisions in the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, however it's not clear which specific clauses you wish to be removed from the Bill.
If there were specific changes you'd like to be made to the Bill, you could start a petition about that. If you choose to do so, please be sure to include the full name of one of the petition creators, as we require an individual's name to be associated with each petition.
You may however wish to sign this petition which calls for a related action: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/579242.
