New Argentine Law Threatening British Citizens in and around the Falkland Islands

Additional Information

Given the passing by the Argentine Congress of a law purporting to make it illegal to explore for oil around the Falkland Islands,

And given the threat issued by the Argentine Embassy in London that British companies and individuals could face prison sentences of up to 15 years for so doing,

We call on the Foreign Secretary to summon the Argentine Ambassador and inform her that threatening British citizens with imprisonment for carry out lawful activities in British waters is unacceptable.

Further, if the Embassy does not withdraw its threat against British citizens within 10 days, diplomatic relations with Argentina must be terminated until such time as the threat is withdrawn.
