Petition Action

Align punishment for dog theft with that of human kidnapping/false imprisonment

Petition Details

Discuss the current maximum sentence for dog theft which is a crime that is increasing exponentially and understand the impact this crime has on the family. Dogs are family members and endure huge stress when taken from the family unit. The sentence for taking them should recognise this.

Additional Information

Recognise that the family dog is part of the family unit and when taken both the dog and the family endure huge stress and anxiety. The sentence for being prosecuted for such a crime should align more closely with the taking of another family member (which would be kidnapping/false imprisonment) rather than just theft.
