Recognition of the Latin American ethnic group in the UK. And no as "OTHERS"
Ten years ago, members of the Latin American Community met with the then Major of London, now Prime Minister, Boris Johnson. The main topics was to be recognised as an Official Cultural Ethnic Group in all forms. including the 2021 Census. It was agreed in principle with a letter signed Richard B.
We want the Census that is carried out by the Office of National Statistics to reflect this decision for the next Census in 2031 with a category of ethnic origin as follows:
The Latin American Community has been present in the UK for more than 50 years; even now we are not recognised as an ethnic community, despite having 3 generations born in the UK. We should be classified according to our own perceived ethnic group and cultural background, not by those imposed upon us nor erased a community.
