Stop using the label BAME, in government and Parliament in official discussions

Petition Details

We want and end to the labelling of people of colour because this is nothing more than modern day segregation. How will anything change for equality if people who are born here are continuously put into separate groups. This only highlights the issues surrounding this sort of labeling (BAME).

Additional Information

Racist groups in the UK already have a narrative about people of colour, this type of labelling only perpetuates a negative stereotype & makes individuals think negatively about people of colour. Government, politicians and the media projects this segregation creating more division. When ever there is an issue with Black/Asian people, it's a community problem, but this is not the case when there is an issue with a White person it is not classed as a whole community problem. WE JUST WANT EQUALITY

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about the labelling of people of colour, but it's not clear if you want all labelling of people of colour to stop, or just the use of the label "BAME".

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
