Close the loophole allowing the import of bees from the EU to Britain
Close the post Brexit loophole allowing the import of colonies and packages of bees from the EU to Great Britain via Northern Ireland
As part of the Brexit agreement a ban on the import of packages and colonies of bees direct from the EU was put in place. This loophole puts our bee population at risk of parasites from the EU being transmitted into the Great British mainland.
The National Bee Unit is quite clear on what can and cannot be imported from the EU:
What can I import from the EU?
Queen Bees with up to 20 attendants.
Bumble Bees
What can’t I import from the EU?
Packages/Nucleus/Full Colony
