Petition Action

Allow Council meetings to be held as a hybrid of virtual and in person.

Petition Details

Bring in emergency legislation to change the rule that local councils have to meet in person.

Additional Information

The Covid pandemic has forced the use of technology, but has shown that technology is safe to use to hold meetings. I would like to propose that Parliament brings forward a bill to allow hybrid meetings, those where you have the choice of how to attend, as soon as possible. This would also cut down journeys.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Government has created new powers for local authorities in England to hold public meetings virtually by using video or telephone conferencing technology from 4 April 2020: www.gov.uk/government/news/councils-given-new-powers-to-hold-public-meetings-remotely
