Petition Action

Call for a user-led, independent body to stop abuse in secure hospitals and ATUs

Petition Details

We have seen too many enquiries & reports talking about abuse #ActionNeededNow ‘We are sick, angry & upset; we wonder who cares about our lives?’ Over 2,000 learning disabled & autistic people are detained in ATUs & secure hospitals in the UK. How many more people will be abused before this stops?

Additional Information

#WeAreHumanToo are working for changebut in 2021 abuse is still happening The repeated abuse exposed in some institutions shows people being stripped of their Human Rights, living in fear without a voice. We believe an independent group led by people with lived experience should monitor & hold responsible bodies to account. We want the Government to put the Rightful Lives 8 Point Plan into action

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. We're not sure whether you want a new user-led body to replace the Care Quality Commission or in addition to the CQC.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.

If you'd like to start a petition relating Rightful Lives 8 Point Plan, you'll need to set out those actions clearly within a petition, as we can't accept petitions that don't explain exactly what actions you'd like to see happen.
