Turn a third of UK coastal seas into fully protected areas for fish population.
David Attenborough in One Planet, Coastal Seas (Netflix Series) said:
“We have far too few marine sanctuaries. We need to turn a third of all our coastal seas into properly protected areas, if we do that, our fishing grounds would recover and help sustain both humanity and the natural world.
The UK currently has 24% of coastal areas under some form of protection but commercial fishing is sometimes still allowed in these areas. We need to beef that up to 33% and make them fully protected.
Also recent seaspiracy on Netflix brings to light plastic pollution is over 50‰ down to fishing vessels leaving plastic nets in the ocean which kill far more animals than straws and they make lots of money from this.
