Make legislation to allow local authorities to hold virtual or hybrid meetings
In the COVID-19 pandemic local authorities could hold meetings virtually. This resulted in meetings being more open and transparent to the public, while allow allowing councillors a flexibility in how to access meetings. The government should allow authorities to hold virtual or hybrid meetings.
During the COVID-19 pandemic local authority meetings were more open and transparent to the public than ever before.
Councillors also learned how to do virtual meetings and embraced a technology that is common in the business community.
Going forward, if the Government allow local authorities to have the ability to hold virtual or hybrid meetings it would see the council chamber become accessible to a new generation of citizens, both as councillors and attendees.
